Whispers in the Woods

During my time at my school placement I was involved in designing and creating the set for the upper school play 'Whispers in the Woods' created by the National Youth Theatre Of Wales

Whispers In The Woods is a fairy-tale story that is darkly enchanting. It brings together snippets of familiar tales and characters against the backdrop of a Romeo and Juliet style tragic love story

Forgetting

To forget you sounds so easy, yet there is no harder thing,

For what am I to do with all those memories that cling,

So closely that I cannot hear a time or pass a flower,

Without recalling incidents from some sweet bygone hour.

How can I forget you when I know not where to start, and

How can I erase the words you carved upon my heart.

To forget you is not as simple as it seems when even

While I sleep, your voice is speaking in my dreams

Forgotten

I found some old pictures of my Nain and Taid from the war along with some interesting bits and bobs so I thought it would be a good idea to do something with them. Here are my designs so far! Also I found an interesting poem which I will include once I've made sense of the handwriting.

More coming soon along with the poem and more bits!

Living at home once again I have started to look more into what makes people feel happy. Here are some pictures from my recent sketchbook (which doesn't really have a theme just random drawings and mark making) and some pictures from my home. Bit of a pointless post but these are the things that make me happy today...
Sketchbook Scraps

Ink & Stitch

Pen Sketches
The recent work from my sketchbook is mainly the unfinished pages and scraps of ink and paper. Collecting memories and small pieces of inspiration is the kind of mood I am in today. Being at home sat by the fire and looking through old photos is a good way to spend a lazy sunday.

Contemplating memories had in my home makes me feel happy and content. Hope you enjoy the post even if it is a bit pointless!

Workshops

Handmade Paper
At uni for our PGCE we each had to teach a workshop for a practical art lesson. This one was paper making by Dan Wells. I had never done paper making before so I found this really interesting and its so easy to do! I'm thinking about making a book for my mum for christmas with some old sepia photos and stuff in :) we'll see how it goes!

Degree Show June 2009

I found some pictures on my hard-drive from my degree show so I thought I would share them! I've only put mine up just in case other people don't want me posting their work. My pieces were very lightweight so they moved with the air conditioning so it was quite hard to get still pictures but here are the ones I could find!
My collection was called Tranquil Reverie and focused on movement in design. It was an interior project designed for spas as installation pieces. I looked at unusual creatures that move in strange ways such as dragonflies and jellyfish.

Mark Making

Heulwen
Here is some recent sketchbook work, its kind of messy but I like that. Its actually the wrong side of the stitch but I like the effect it brings. Lately I've been doing a lot of mark making using stitch and other things so I'm being a bit experimental at the moment!

Degree Show June 2009

Tranquil Reverie
This is one of my designs from my degree show. I did four final designs but thought I would put my favourite up as they would take up quite a lot of space! The four designs were based on light and movement. I focused on some key images from my drawings (jellyfish and dragonflies mainly) and produced designs through CAD and printed them digitally onto different lightweight fabrics. The colours used were based on water and ink. Some are dark and some are light. I chose this piece to link all the fabrics together and I presented them on a black wall to emphasise the light in the designs. My Designs were featured on a trend forecasting website for a while which was a great opportunity to get my work known. This was by far my favourite project from my degree as my style really developed and I ventured onto larger scale designs and development.

Bottlegreen Comp 2009

Graceful Summer
This was a design I did for Bottlegreen in 2009. This design was made using scrap backgrounds and new drawings I did based on research of the brand and the product. This design in particular (I submitted 3) was chosen as one of the final designs and was put to public vote on the website. Unfortunately I didn't win but I learnt a lot about designing for a specific brief and how to work with a brand. I have removed the logo, but the placement of the design and floral images incorporated the logo and where it would be on the product.

New to Blogger!

Hello there! Being new to blogger I'm sure it will take me a while to get used to it but for now I'm going to give you an update!

At the moment I'm sat in my lounge surrounded by pages and pages of ink drying out which is extremely enjoyable! I have had some new found inspiration and have started to stitch once more. My time at university was spent surrounded by paint, ink, and lots and lots of fabric so I'm going back to basics and small scale (which is less daunting) and hopefully will create some stitch work worthy of showing the big wide world.

I'm going to upload (hopefully!) some of my degree show designs and other recent work for people to look at. Hope you all enjoy!
