London Nov 2011

Yet another trip to London. We went down to see a concert at the Royal Albert Hall which was amazing, but there was an added bonus; went to a small art gallery in Harrow and saw a great exhibition at Usurp Gallery Tender Constructions -Veronica Grassi

I thought her work was fantastic and after speaking to the artist I found that she uses stitch and found materials to create structures inspired by nature. Very inspiring work and lovely delicate structures. Apologies for the bad quality photographs it was quite late at night and I only had my phone but I think the way the light affects the structures is good and I love the shapes the shadows create.

Yay! I love printing, I've finally been doing some printing on my new table :) For my sketchbook project I've been doing some printing on top of some of the digital manipulations of drawings and photos from my previous post, they came out quite dark and messy but I quite like that. I did a few plain ones in my sketchbook to start and they came out quite messy as well. The stories I've focused on are quite personal and I've only used elements from the stories in my sketchbook so to most people it will just be a sketchbook full of random images like poppies, birds, cowboys and saucepans! here are some pictures from my most recent printing experiments:

Fill Me With Stories

Update on the sketchbook project so far! doing some sketches of my Nain and Taid and some of the stories they used to tell me when I was little. I re-bound my sketchbook as there was not a lot of pages to work on. Doing some collage and stitching, hopefully will do some printing soon and some fabric work too. At the moment I'm getting into plain old sketching again though :) here are some pictures:

Liverpool Galleries and Sketchbook Update

During these last 2 weeks at uni, we took a trip to the galleries in liverpool to try and come up with some ideas for sustainable and eco-friendly art. Some good inspiration from the Tate and from the World Museum. This driftwood table gave me some good ideas for some workshops :)

Sketches from the World Museum

An update on the sketchbook project: started my book FINALLY, looking at stories my Taid used to tell me or sing to me when I was little and looking at memories as well here are some pics of works in progress:

Back from London and back to school, booooo. Had a great time in London. Congratulations to Lara for doing so well in her degree show it was amazing. Also had a chance to visit the Natural History Museum and the V&A, the Yohji Yamamoto exhibition was on which was interesting. Here are some pics from a great weekend:

This photo is from a video of a performance done by Lara Kenworthy, there was also people walking around the degree show with canvas's on them (walking paintings) in this photo one is standing in front of the projection which looks quite interesting.

Other artists from the show:

A great mix of different media in this show, there was quite a lot of performance art but also some installations and paintings. Back to work for now!

The sun came out for at least 1 hour yesterday! so we took the opportunity to drive to Bewts Y Coed and do some browsing around the shops, I took my vintage Canon SLR and took some great pics by the river but I'll have to develop them before I can post them. Had a look in the art gallery there: Galeri

Some fantastic work by Ann Lewis, she's a printmaker and uses a lot of lino prints:

I love the detail in these prints, they have inspired me to do some more printing, I think I'm going to try lots of different printing styles for my sketchbook project I think these are amazing.

I also saw some work by Clive Burnell, his work uses acrylic and oils and the colours are just my style I love them! they show great depth and vibrancy:

I definitely think that I should use similar colours from my degree work. I find they work really well so I'm going to explore some colour mixing. Getting excited for London now can't wait to see all the art work from the degree show. Not long now until I can start doing some art again! Yay!

Spending some time sorting out my portfolio, hopefully for when I get lots and lots of interviews soon! Ha! I have created a photo book and got it printed and taken pictures of all my degree show fabrics. Here are some I didn't know I had!

I miss uni and working in the print workshop, I was looking at how much it would cost me to get some equipment for printing, lets just say I won't be having my own studio any time soon! Oh well at least I'll be ready for when the phone rings with my perfect job on the other end.....

The Sketchbook Project

I'm taking part in the Sketchbook Project 2012! Very excited to be doing some of my own work again, unfortunately I'll have to hold back all of my ideas until I finish my course in four weeks time. Lots of ideas though, my theme is fill me with stories, I chose it because I've grown up with lots of stories and I think its shaped me as a person, basically I LOVE STORIES! but I do tend to make projects a bit personal sometimes. I'm going down to London to a friends degree show so that might provide me with some more ideas. So we'll have to see what I come up with, it's going to be hard to narrow down my thoughts......

If anyone else is taking part and would like to add me on the art house page the link is here: Nerys Kate Williams
