Serenity

Right, it's been far too long! lots to update: I've been teaching in Llangollen so the travelling has been taking it's toll on me and I haven't had a lot of time to be creative, also I have been very ill. Now I am on the mend and getting used to the travelling so it's time to start stitching again! I have been looking at my jellyfish prints and stitching more into them, I have been experimenting adding some collage and adding a splash of other colours to try and bring out the peacefulness and tranquility. I would appreciate any comments as I am trying to explore a few more ideas now. Thanks!

I quite like the pink in this one and how it blends it with the print, I think the print itself needs some deeper blues or maybe to be printed on a thicker fabric thats not as see through.

Not too sure about the collage although I will keep experimenting!

(sorry about quality yet again only had my phone with me)

Some lovely pen and ink work, great detail, love the fish theme too!

Love the use of colours in this series, great deep tones, very inspiring.

Also love the deep tones in these traditional watercolours.

Sorry it was such a short post! will try to update on my own current work soon.......

Ruthin Craft Centre

Well it's been a while! my internet has been down for a ages and I've been busy with work, but now its summer holidays!! and my internet has come back to life.

I recently took a trip to Ruthin Craft Centre for some inspiration for school and found some interesting ideas. The artist Olivia Brown had some great bags which used screen printing:
(sorry for poor quality pics, only had my phone on me)

There was also some interesting ceramics and heat set fabrics which gave me lots of inspiration for September!

They also have a very nice shop with magazines, books and all sorts of beautiful crafts, very easy to spend money!

I have also had a bit more time to be working on some embroidery for the Embroiderer's Guild exhibition next year. I have been stitching into my printed designs and I hope to do some more collage work soon, let me know what you think so far:

This is the print I worked on

Stitching and Printing Development

Well I have been quite busy stitching and doing some more digital printing. I have done some small stitching of a full jellyfish and then I have used my sketches and enlarged them then stitched them into my digital prints. Here are some pictures of my recent work.

Detailed Stitching

Enlarged stitching

I think the smaller, more detailed stitching works better so on my next prints I will try and use the full jellyfish image to stitch.

Watercolours

Here are some pictures of my recent prints on fabric, I have tried using a variety of fabrics to see how the colours work. So far I'm pleased I think they are working well and I'm happy with the colour intensity. Hopefully I will be stitching into these soon.

Digital Printing and Sketches

Well so far this project is quite inspiring! I've had loads of ideas and I've working on some digital prints and stitching.
I've been working from my own photographs and previous research from my degree for the sketches and embroidery.
I like the image of the whole jellyfish but will probably cut this down to sections when I stitch into my prints later.

Early stages of my embroidery

For my digital prints I used my own photographs and ink work to create a flowing feeling. I used thin, translucent fabrics so they would catch the light, similar to those I used in my degree show. I am going to experiment further with thicker fabrics to see if the colours will be deeper and I will hopefully be stitching into these using some of my sketches and initial ideas.

This project is moving quite quickly so far (unusual for me!) so I will be updating here with pictures and ideas. Watch this space :)
