Digital Printing and Sketches

Well so far this project is quite inspiring! I've had loads of ideas and I've working on some digital prints and stitching.
I've been working from my own photographs and previous research from my degree for the sketches and embroidery.
I like the image of the whole jellyfish but will probably cut this down to sections when I stitch into my prints later.

Early stages of my embroidery

For my digital prints I used my own photographs and ink work to create a flowing feeling. I used thin, translucent fabrics so they would catch the light, similar to those I used in my degree show. I am going to experiment further with thicker fabrics to see if the colours will be deeper and I will hopefully be stitching into these using some of my sketches and initial ideas.

This project is moving quite quickly so far (unusual for me!) so I will be updating here with pictures and ideas. Watch this space :)

Inspiration from Conwy

I had an unexpected day off this week and decided it would be nice to have a nosy around Conwy. I stumbled upon a new gallery I hadn't seen before called the Harbour Gallery with some great artists work inside including originals and prints for sale.

I love his use of the cubist style to capture local landscapes and seascapes.

These images are fantastic with a more illustrative feel and great use of watercolours.

I'm feeling very inspired now after seeing lots of local artists work. Better get cracking with my own work now!!

Initial Ideas

Using my photographs as a starting point, I have started to manipulate them in photoshop using other photographs and ink work that I have scanned in. I think I am going to try and print these on to fabric, then add some stitch and maybe some devore print to burn out sections of the fabric using stencils. At the moment the colours are looking quite bright so I might try to reduce the colours at a later stage.

So far I'm still feeling inspired and I have lots of ideas I want to experiment with!

Photography

For my 2013 exhibition I will be developing some of my degree work based on dreams and underwater creatures. It's been a while since my degree and since then I have been travelling a bit and seen lots of things. I will be starting off my ideas by working from my own photographs. Here are some of my favourites:

Looking to the future

Well for now I am free of projects! but being me this probably won't last. I have already begun thinking about the Embroiderers Guild 2013 exhibition.

For a while now I have wanted to develop my work from my degree show and this may be a good opportunity to start. My degree show looked at dreamlike, surreal fabrics and ideas. I was inspired by the way different creatures move through water and air. I focused on printed fabrics but I have wanted to develop it into stitch for a long time. Here are some pictures from my degree show:

I will be updating with images as I go along, I've got a while to complete it but things are taking longer than usual due to being busy at work.
